It may also be utilized for initial herpes simplex infections, including genital herpes, prevention of herpes simplex in immunocompromised individuals, varicella zoster, herpes zoster (shingles), and as a means to suppress recurrent herpes simplex.

Administer Acivir DT according to your physician's instructions. Refer to the label on Acivir DT for precise dosage guidelines. Dissolve the tablet in a teaspoon (5ml) of water prior to taking it. It is advisable to consume extra liquids while on Acivir DT. Consult your doctor for further directions.

Begin treatment with Acivir DT at the first indication or symptom of shingles or genital herpes (such as pain, burning, or blisters). For preventive treatment, Acivir DT is most effective when taken at consistent times each day.

If you forget a dose of Acivir DT, take it as soon as you can. If it is nearly time for your next dose, omit the missed dose and return to your usual dosing schedule. Do not take two doses simultaneously.
